Compare Digital Cameras with Snapsort.com

A few years ago I was planning to produce a DVD of a national martial art tournament. Naturally, I got a job at Future Shop so I could get a discount on all the video equipment I needed to buy (six video cameras, tripods, batteries, and boxes of miniDV tapes).

My big problem as a new “Product Expert”: there were too many cameras. Since I was running a photography business I was already familiar with the SLRs, but those crazy point-and-shoot models blew my mind. So I spent hours researching technical specs on various models, and the resulting spreadsheet became a handy reference for everyone behind the counter.

Now Alex Black (my official twin) and his dashing team have finally solved the problem: their site Snapsort.com lets us compare digital camera specifications across product lines, brands, and classes (pro DSLRs, “prosumers”, compacts, etc.).

Snapsort actively finds new cameras as they’re released to keep fully up to date. It provides unbiased camera reviews based on the facts, as well as allowing visitor comments and reviews.

Snapsort is evolving quickly and is already the most useful site I know of to compare digital camera models. They even have a guide to digital camera specifications and some digital camera news. Great work by the team, I look forward to seeing what’s coming next.
